What I have seen with the regular ones is that the metal part is too short or there is plastic housing that prevents full insertion depth. I have never had a USB connector failure yet, or a cable failure. HDMI connectors are really vulnerable in that regard. One thing to remember is that you have to be very careful about the amount of (bending) strain you put on connectors, and especially the micro versions. USB itself is reliable but micro USB is not. I have no problem with the plugs for iphone3 and iphone4 which though look quite filmsy and can only be inserted one way but at least use a much bigger plug. It is not usual that a cable can charge but cannot communicate reliably The problem seems to be also that the pins on microUSB are extremely small and hard to make to close tolerances.
Thanks for your insight, you are likely an engineering type. It can also carry more power for charging and can of course be plugged in either way. It is smooth all the way around, including the two side detents, and with the tip rounded off. There is also nothing on the outside that can get snagged or broken. It can also carry more power for charging and can of course be plugged in either way. It's an excellent design.Īll that said, the successor to the micro USB cable is apparently in the works and supposedly it will look and function similar to Apple's lightning cable.Īpple's Lightning plug is completely solid in that it is a true male plug. The end of it is also sharp edged all the way around which makes for a less than smooth insertion.Īpple's Lightning plug is completely solid in that it is a true male plug. It is an archaic design that is both male and female at the same time, which makes it much weaker since the female aspect of the plug opens it up to being distorted and worn very easily, not to mention exposing it to dirt and debris. Ĭompared to Apple's Lightning plug, micro USB is very flimsy in comparison since externally it is a more complex design in that it exposes more things to failure.
I dont have this issues with the ports or cables with iPhones. I also suspect this design is not tolerant of wear and tear. Sometimes juggling the cable works but sometimes dont. A large percentage of cables made by third parties and even the original cable failed to connect reliably to my camera or Samsung smartphone from time to time ,so that they either dont charge or that your laptop may not detect the devices. However it is my experience this is not a reliable design. It is now adopted by many cameras as well.
COMMON PROBLEMS OF USB B CONNECTORS ANDROID
If I am not mistaken the micro USB port was first introduced by Samsung on their Android phones and later by others for charging the phone and exchange of data.
